City Lax’s home fields have been Skyland Park, located behind Hiawatha Davis Recreation Center at 35th & Holly Street; the Martin Luther King Recreation Center, located at 38th and Newport; Fred Thomas Park, located at 26th & Quebec; and the Smiley Campus (McAuliffe) at 25th and Holly St. In 2024, we will primarily use MLK Recreation Center.
Practices will be held at our home field(s), and possibly at other neighborhood playgrounds and fields, depending on the age level of the team.
Practices are 2-3 times per week depending on the team's age level. All teams practice between 5:30-7:00 pm.
City Lax relies on an impressive group of 60+ volunteer coaches during the spring lacrosse season. Coaches are generally former high school and college lacrosse players, as well as City Lax parents and family members. Each team is assigned 3-5 coaches. Coaches participate in City Lax coaches training, background checks, a league coaching certification program, and additional training.
There is NO COST to players and families to participate in Denver City Lax. All programs and equipment are provided at no cost to increase access to the sport. City Lax families are encouraged to help with fundraising efforts organized by Denver City Lax.
Denver City Lax provides all players who do not have equipment with all necessary equipment (Boys: helmet, gloves, stick, shoulder pads, elbow pads, mouth guard; Girls: stick, goggles, mouthguard) and uniforms to participate. All boys are highly, highly encouraged to wear an athletic cup. Boys and girls should also provide their own cleats (football, lacrosse, soccer). Denver City Lax does have new and gently used cleats but there's no guarantee we have your size available.
Denver City Lax is about growing the game, so no lacrosse experience is necessary. Each year we start a new group of players at the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade levels. New players are welcome on older, returning teams (4th-8th grade); however, space can be more limited and players must be athletically motivated and/or athletically gifted.
City Lax players come from a wide range of neighborhoods, mostly throughout Denver's northeast corridor. While many City Lax families live or attend school in the Park Hill area, City Lax has a history of working with numerous players that live throughout the metro area including Park Hill, Montbello, Green Valley, Aurora, Skyland, Clayton, Cole, Five Points, Whittier and other neighborhoods.
Denver City Lax is a non-profit organization working to create opportunities for
youth in underserved neighborhoods by providing access to lacrosse and then engaging participants in year-round lacrosse training, academic guidance, and enrichment experiences.
City Lax is supported by private donations from individuals in the lacrosse, business and educational communities of Denver; foundation grants; and numerous volunteers.
